About Us
Mission.
To provide equitable resources that broaden opportunities and produce sustainable outcomes of growth for those in need
Koinonia Community is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting our neighborhoods. Our membership is composed of business leaders, community advocates, and professionals who have seen firsthand the challenges facing our communities. We actively collaborate with families, foster care partners, schools, and other local organizations to address these needs and create meaningful, lasting impact.
How We Serve
Mentorship
Kings in Training Mentorship Program - Each week, KIT provides a safe and energetic program to boys ages 5 to 16. The program provides the boys examples of productive and responsible men who are leaders in their homes and instills values which are sometimes better received from a male role model. We operate weekly, year around. Kings in Training is more than just a mentorship program—it’s an investment in the next generation of leaders, equipping boys to rise as kings in their own right.
Donation Distribution
Eastside Donation Program – Each week we pick up and deliver donations to support those in the community and also those re-entering back into society from prison through Progress House. Through donations we continue to provide food, essentials, baby supplies, furniture, and more. These donations make a tangible difference by meeting practical needs. From food and household essentials to baby supplies, furniture, and more, every item helps ease burdens and provide stability during challenging times.
Jed’s Big Slice
Jed’s Big Slice Food Truck is more than a meal—it’s a job training program, employment opportunity, and community fundraising vehicle. By providing hands-on experience in food service, customer service, and teamwork, it equips individuals with skills for long-term success while also creating income opportunities. In addition, the food truck partners with schools, nonprofits, and groups to raise funds and generates revenue to sustain community programs—turning every slice into an investment in people and progress.
Holiday Giveaway
For over 20 years we annually serve the Eastside of Tacoma by providing food baskets and toys during the Christmas season for families in need. This effort is about more than gifts—it’s about ensuring families in need experience the warmth, hope, and love of the season. With the help of volunteers, donors, and our community, hundreds of families celebrate Christmas with joy and abundance. The Holiday Giveaway is a reminder that when we serve together, we build stronger families and a stronger community.
4420 Project
Our mission is to address the critical needs of our community by creating a neighborhood market in an area identified as a food desert. Far too many families in our community lack consistent access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. By establishing this market, we are not only providing a convenient and reliable source of groceries, but also restoring dignity and equity to residents who deserve the same quality of resources as any other neighborhood.
